Railcars will run ahead of their time
According to Evgeny Vinokurov, Chief Economist of EDB and EFSR, the volume of container traffic along the China-EU-China corridor, running through and across the EEC member countries, in the period between 2012 and 2020 has already demonstrated explosive growth - from 7 to over 540 thousand TEUs (equivalent of 20-foot containers). According to our expert, in many respects this was due to the streamlined performance of Russian, Kazakh and Belarusian railway companies, as well as large-scale infrastructure development efforts undertaken by the EEU member states, implementation of new engineering solutions and digital technologies, upgrading of the rolling stock. Yet, there exist other, external drivers. In particular, such as the enactment by China in 2013 of export subsidies for land containerized cargo exports.
